Pirates not able to overcome slow start

A slow start spelled trouble for the Phoenix boys basketball team on Tuesday night.
The Pirates trailed early and spent the night trying to catch Eagle Point in a 61-53 loss at Phoenix Tuesday night. PHS trailed 15-4 in the first quarter and 31-23 at halftime. The lead was closed to within three points in the second half but the Pirates weren't able to get all the way back in falling to 1-1 on the season.
Braeden Watts scored a team-high 20 points to lead Phoenix, which got 16 points from Ethan Hutsell. Phoenix was only 16 for 28 from the free throw line in the game.
The Pirates return to action Friday, hosting Rogue River at 6:30 pm in the first round of the Pirate Shootout.
