After a slow start to the day, the Phoenix girls' basketball warmed up on Saturday.

The Pirates bounced back from a 44-30 loss to Tillamook in the semifinals to a claim a 51-49 win over Rogue River in the third-place game of the 2018 Pirate Shootout.

A fourth-quarter surge spelled the difference in the win over Rogue River as the Pirates improved to 3-2 on the young season. A career-high 13 points from Crystal Tellez fueled the rally. Tellez hit a pair of free throws with six seconds to play to put the game away. The junior forward also added six rebounds.

Delani Parent scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Maggie Carrillo finished with 14 points and four assists. For the game, PHS connected on 12 of 16 free throws.

Earlier in the day, Phoenix fell behind early and was never able to cast the visiting Cheesemakers in the semifinals. PHS trailed 26-9 at the intermission before outscoring Tillamook 21-18 over the final two quarters. Carrillo scored 10 points while Parent and Marcella Badillo added eight each.

The Pirates return to action Friday, visiting Woodburn.
