The first big meet of the season brought home some big results for the Phoenix High School swim teams.

The PHS boys finished seventh and the girls 10th in the annual Newport Invitational on December 21.

"It was a great experience for our team, novice and experienced athletes alike," Phoenix coach Jim Heath said.

Alec Shepherd won the 50 freestyle and was second in the 100 butterfly. Other Pirates to earn points on the day included Bailey Olson eight in the 500 freestyle, Fod Fogelman 11th in the 500 free, Heidi Taylor 11th in the 100 butterfly, Ruby Moser 11th in the 100 backstroke and Perl Ward 12thin the 50 freestyle.

The Pirates return to action on January 5 at the Grants Pass YMCA.
