Track breaks the ice at P Hill

Sienna Bauer and Crystal Tellez kicked off the new track and field meet in style on Wednesday.

The Phoenix juniors bought set impressive standards in the first meet of the season at the Pleasant Hill Ice Breaker. Bauer established a new junior class record for her school, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.75 seconds. Meanwhile, Tellez was fourth in the javelin with a best of 89-07, good for fifth on the school’s all-time javelin list.

Those were just two of many solid performances on the day. For the Pirate boys, highlights included Noah Marshall, third in the 1500 (4:28.82), Joseph Grace fourth in the javelin (141-01), the 4x400 relay team of Adoniram Gamez, Joe Navas, Noah Marshall and Tyler Clark fourth (4:00.93), Roman Stubbs fifth in the high jump (5-6), Eric Peltier sixth in the 300 hurdles (45.17),  Joe Navas seventh in the 400 (58.8), Elijah Leonis seventh in the 110 hurdles (19.83), Elwood Hosking eighth in the 110 hurdles (20.33).

For the girls, Sophia Stubblefield was second in the 800 (2:32.67) and third in the 3000 (13:11.91), Sophia Tringolo second to Bauer in the 100 hurdles (17.94) plus a fifth in the long jump (13-5.75) and sixth in the high jump (4-6), the 4x400 relay team of Lupita Alegria, Heidi Taylor, Jasper Cortell and Lucy Newell second (4:52.91), Scarlet Moit fifth in the 300 hurdles (55.06), Jasper Cortell sixth in the 300 hurdles (56.20).

Phoenix returns to action on Saturday at the Medford Relays.
