A pair of offensive-minded softball teams traded punches on Wednesday afternoon with Mazama having a little more power than Phoenix, downing the Pirates 13-8 in a Skyline Conference game in Talent.
The visiting Vikings pounded out 12 hits and put up 11 runs over the game's final five innings. Meanwhile, Phoenix used the long ball to stay in the game, with home runs from seniors Makenna Page and Halie Bowman. Raylyssa Goff finished with three hits while Page, Bowman and Abi George all added two.
The Pirates found themselves trailing 8-2 midway through the game. The scored four time sin the fifth and twice more in the sixth but were unable to catch Mazma, falling to 1-3 in confernce play and 6-6 overall.
PHS returns to action Saturday, heading to Mazama for a doubleheader.
