Five Phoenix High School athletes earned tickets to the OSAA State Track and Field Meet in Gresham with stellar efforts at the two-day Skyline Conference event in North Valley May 10-11.

Double-qualifiers Sophia Stubblefield and Sienna Bauer headline the list. A freshman, Stubblefield won both distance events, setting personal bests in each. Friday she set the pace in the 3000-meter run, turning in a time of 10 minutes, 56.27 seconds. Saturday, Stubblefield edged Eliza Blake of Klamath Union with a time of 4:57.17 (.60 of a second better than Blake).

Bauer cruised to her third straight Skyline title in the 100 hurdles, clocking a time of 15.19. The junior is also state-bound in the triple jump. Bauer finished third in the event, exceeding the state-qualifying standard when she went 36-3.5.

The Pirates crowned two other individual champions as Joseph Grace and Lupita Alegria will both return to the state meet. Grace won the javelin with a best of 161-5 on Friday while Alegria ran a personal best of 2:24.36 to win the 800.

Noah Marshall rounds out the Phoenix state qualifiers. The sophomore finished second in the 800 (personal best 1:58.10).

The PHS girls finished tied for fourth in the team standings while the boys were sixth.
