The Phoenix volleyball team was on the verge of a big win to close out the pre-season.
The Pirates led host Eagle Point (2-1 after three sets) but were unable to close the match in a five-set loss to the Eagles on Monday night.
Josie Bolstad had nine kills and 21 digs in the match while Rae Goff added 18 digs and Ally Ellis 22 assists. Delani Parent chipped in seven kills and four blocks.
The Pirates also battled St. Mary's falling in three sets. Parent had eight kills, Bolstad seven, Ellis 14 assists and Goff 13 digs.
The Pirates (1-8 on the season) return to action Thursday, opening Skyline Conference play against Henley at home.
