Victor Martinez and his friends did it again.
Martinez scored first on a pass from Ty Clayton in the 40th minute to give Phoenix (8-1-2, 6-0-1 Sky) a 1-0 lead over the No. 7 Mustangs. Just two minutes later, Caden Gallegos set Martinez up for the Pirates’ second goal. Phoenix, which had 14 shots on goal, and Martinez capitalized with two more goals in the 50th and 60th minutes.
Center backs Dan Martinez and Logan Jenkins led the Pirate defense, which allowed seven shots. Goalkeeper Tucker Speaks had two athletic saves.
The Pirates return to action Monday when they visit North Valley.
