After knocking on the door for a couple weeks, the Phoenix girls' basketball team finally got an answer, breaking a five-game losing streak in the process.

Three close losses dotted the landscape for the Pirates, who improved to 4-5 on the young season with a 53-37 win over St. Mary's on the final day of the Dutch Bros. Classic at Cascade Christian High School on Saturday.

Delani Parent poured in a game-high 23 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for Phoenix, which claimed its second win of the season over the Crusaders. Josie Bolstad added 11 points while Kassandra Skaff added nine points off the bench.

Ranked 23rd in the state, the Pirates suffered three losses by a combined total of 14 points during their skid. Phoenix fell 36-31 to Eagle Point and 36-31 to Santiam Christian during the first two days of the tournament.

Bolstad and Parent are doing the bulk of the scoring although Skaff, Cristal Tellez and freshmen Morgan James and Lola Lumbreras are also contributing. The freshmen combined for 16 points in the loss to Santiam Christian.

The program's junior varsity program continues to develop and has won three of its past four games in posting a 4-5 record to date.

The Pirates will play host to the Skyline-SkyEm Crossover Tournament on January 10-11. Phoenix opens Skyline play on January 17.
