Nate Wood earns state trip

Game Date
Feb 15, 2020

Phoenix's Nate Wood is heading to the OSAA State Swimming Meet in Tualatin after earning a wild card spot thanks to his efforts at the district meet over the weekend in Cottage Grove.

The Pirate junior posted the seventh fastest time in the state in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday. Wood was clocked in 1:09.85 The winners of each of the four regionals automatically advanced along with the next eight fastest times. Wood was fourth in the finals of the event.

Pirate coach Jim Heath provided a round-up of the weekend's efforts...At the District Championship finals today our sort of small team of Pirates still made some waves! We placed 8th for girls and 8th for boys. We busted nearly every preliminary time from yesterday, set a great number of PRs, and season best relay times too.

Almost everyone in finals held their place or moved up. Move ups were: Girls' and boys' 200 medley relays moved from 8th up to 7th and 6th respectively. Derek Graham moved up from 15th to 13th in the 200 free. Heidi Taylor moved up from 7th to 6th in the 100 fly. Ford Fogleman moved up from 8th to 7th in the 100 fly. Zyan Shull-Bain moved up from 15th to 14th in the 100 back.

To cap off our successful individual performances, Nate Wood put up a great new personal record in the 100 breaststroke.

It has been a great season and a memorable Championship weekend. Results of finals are posted on our webpage at:http://piratesswimming.com/resul…/2020-districts-results.pdf
