The Phoenix boys' soccer team showed it was more than ready for the 4A state tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
While other top programs fell or barely fended off upset bids, the Pirates roll past visiting La Grande 7-0 in a Round of 16 contest at Phoenix.
The win advanced the Pirates (13-2 overall) to a quarterfinal match vs. North Marion (10-2-3). Start time is 5 pm with a live stream on tablerocksports.net
Victor Martinez scored four times while Jorge Mejia added a pair of goals and Jenner Selden one in the victory, which was the sixth straight for Phoenix. Tucker Speaks posted a clean sheet in the goal.
Ranked sixth in the state, North Marion edged Sisters 3-2 in its opening match. Phoenix defeated North Marion 1-0 in last spring's 4A State Showcase on the way to a runner-up finish.
