Another season of growth came to an end for the Phoenix girls’ tennis team on Friday.
The Pirates took part in OSAA district competition in Medford. While no PHS players survived to the final day of play, the progress made by the team was impressive throughout the season.
“I’m proud of all of them for how hard they competed all year and the progress each of them made,” Pirate coach Guy Tauer said. “About half of our players had never picked up a tennis racket before February 26, so that is a steep learning curve to be competing in such a high skill sport like tennis.”
The team of Miranda Perez and Alejandra Camacho won their first-round doubles match on Thursday before falling in the second round on Friday. Others taking part for PHS included Bella Hoye, Celeste McKinnon, Elaine Salcedo, Andrea Orozco, Amna Hoorain, Ariana Saldoval and Marlen Quintero.
