The Phoenix High School swim team was outmanned on Saturday.

After winning 16 straight Skyline Conference titles, the Pirates finished second to Klamath Union. PHS totalled 66 points with its eight swimmers while KU, with 18 boys, compiled 89 points in the annual event at the Grants Pass YMCA.

Alec Shepherd won the 100 butterfly and backstroke while joining Devin Wenaus, Trevor Welch and Max Duffie to claim honors in the 400 freestyle relay and second in the 200 free relay. Bailey Olson finished second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 free, Derrick Graham was third in the 100 free and Treavor Welch fifth in the 100 butterfly. 

The PHS girls finished sixth as a team in the meet, totalling 24 points. Kelly MacLeod was third in the 100 breaststroke while the team of Kazes Kuykendall, Julia Treacy and Amy Samudio and MacLeod were second in the 400 free relay.

Phoenix returns to action February 9 and 10 when it will take part in the district meet at North Bend.
