Pirates finding clear air in Eugene

Game Date
Sep 4, 2021

Not surprisingly, the Phoenix cross country teams were on the run Saturday. For the past two weeks!

After having to divert for an original plan to take part in a meet in Redding due to poor air quality, the Pirates headed to the Eugene area for the Marist Invitational. There they also found the air to be above acceptable levels as meet organizers moved the event to the outskirts of Eugene and found acceptable air quality at the Fern Ridge Reservoir.

Once settled in, both Phoenix teams put together solid performances with sixth-place team efforts in the mostly big-school eight-team event.

Senior Elwood Hosking finished ninth to pace the boys (16:58.01) while Kael Feeley was 37th (19:17) and Marcelo Camargo 42nd (19:36). For the girls, Kyla Potratz was 15th in 21:27, Sophia Stubblefield 19th in 21:46 and Ava Robinson 36th in 23:41.

The Pirates were back in action Saturday, taking part in the massive Ash Creek Festival in Monmouth. Elwood Hosking led the PHS boys, finished 41st in 16:32.60. Sophia Stubblefied was the top girls' finishers, placing 38th in 20:12.29 while Kyla Potratz was 46th in 20:26.70.

Phoenix returns ato action on Saturday at the Northwest Classic in Eugene.
