A pair of Phoenix wrestlers earned sixth-place finishes in the one of Oregon's toughest wrestling tournaments over the weekend.

Ezra DeLuca (113 pounds) and Jacky Hawkins (145) paced the Pirates, who were second among all 4A teams in the annual Coast Classic at North Bend High School. PHS amassed 47.5 team points in the event, which featured 36 teams from around the state.

DeLuca finished 4-3 on the weekend and totalled 13 team points. Meanwhile, Hawkins was 3-3 in his six matches, picking up 13.5 points for the Pirates in the process. 

Other Pirates scoring points at the varsity level included Elijah Leonis (138 pounds), Elijah Santana (160), Dane Johnson (170) and Ryan Brumble (220). Santana and Johnson both won three matches in the event.

The Pirates return to action Thursday, hosting Eagle Point in a dual meet before heading to the Grants Pass Winter Kickoff event on Friday and Saturday.
