Ezra DeLuca set the pace for the Phoenix wrestling team, bringing home a championship from the Grants Pass Winter Kickoff tournament on Saturday.

The Pirate senior claimed honors in the 113-pound class, improving to 10-3 on the season in the process. He wrapped up the championship with a 14-11 win over Ryan Penrose of Dayton in the finals.

Other top finishes for Phoenix came from Elijah Santana (third at 160) while Dane Johnson (170 pounds) and Jacky Hawkins (145) and Mike Walker (152) all placed fourth.

The tournament in Grants Pass completed a busy week for the Pirates, who were also in action last Thursday when they dueled Eagle Point, dropping a 42-38 decision to the visiting Eagles. DeLuca, Dalton Samis, Hawkins, Sam Brumble, Ryan Brumble and Salvador Castanon were all winners for Phoenix.

Phoenix returns to action December 29 at the Rogue Valley Invitational at North Medford High School.
