For the Phoenx golf teams, two events stand out on the calendar. And the Pirates played well in one to set themselves up for the other.
Both Pirate teams finished third at the Phoenix Invitational on April 25. Those efforts allowed the Pirates to turn their attention to the upcoming OSAA district meet at Running Y in Klamath Falls on May 7 and 8.
Camden Chose shot a 79 and Tyler Hanson a career-best 80 to pace the Pirate boys during the PHS Invite at Centennial Golf Course. Kallen Peterson added an 86 for Phoenix. As a team, Phoenix finished 10 strokes behind champion Mazama.
The Pirate girls were led by Maricela Alvarado-Powers, who carded a 97. Giselle Perez-Hernandez added a 99. St. Mary’s won the team title with the Pirates third behind Crater.
