Several Phoenix High School student-athletes were recognized for their efforts during the recently-completed Skyline Conference basketball season.
A pair of Pirates were second-team selections...senior guard Maggie Carrillo and junior swingman Ethan Hutsell. Carrillo was a three-year starter for PHS, helping the team nearly double its win total during the 2018-2019 campaign. She led the Pirates in assists and steals while also being among the top scorers for the team, which put together a 7-17 record, including a 1-9 mark in Skyline play.
Meanwhile, Hutsell scored a team-high 16 points per contest for Phoenix, which was 12-12 overall and 3-7 in the conference. Both players have been selected to take part in the Medford Mail-Tribune All-Star Game on March 15.
Other Pirates honored included junior guard Nik Goff on the all-defensive team plus juniors Brennen Watts, Neco Ortega and sophomore Josie Bolstad, who were all honorable mention selections.
