Phoenix earned more than its share of honors from the Skyline Conference this fall.
After winning a fourth straight conference title and advancing the state quarterfinals, three boys' soccer players earned first-team all-conference honors. The group included senior Randy Rodriguez, junior Dan Martinez and sophomore Victor Martinez. Also, coach Dennis Flenner was named the Skyline's Coach of the Year as he reached 295 career victories at Phoenix by the end of the season. Phoenix's Ty Clatyon was a second-team choice while Logan Jenkins and Tucker Speaks were both honorable mention selections.
Four members of the school's girls' soccer team earned Skyline honors. Senior Sandra Villa was a first-team choice after leading the Pirates in scoring. Mackenzie Christensen was a second-team choice despite missing the final three matches of the season with a knee injury. Alondra Ruvalcaba and Alex Hernandez were both honorable mention choices.
Junior Josie Bolstad was a first-team all-Skyline selection in volleyball after leading the Pirates in kills. Fellow hitters Delani Parent and Jourdon Devey were honorable mention choices in volleyball.
PHS football improved throughout the season, finishing 2-6 overall. Nik Goff was a two-way Skyline choice, earning first-team honors at receiver and defensive back. Mike Walker was a first-team linebacker. Dominic McGee (offensive line) and Marcello Valadez (linebacker) were second-team choices while Huntyr Croy 9center), mateo Lopez (running back), Walker (running back), Fa Masalosalo (defensive line) and Ariel Lopez (offensive line) were all honorable mention choices.
Pirate cross country landed several members on the all-conference and all-state teams. Sophia Stubblefield earned first-team honors at both levels while Kyla Potratz and Noah Marshall were both first-team Skyline and second-team all-state. Sienna Bauer, Elwood Hosking and Dilan Mathieu were all second-team Skyline honorees.
