Skyline honors for Pirate hoopers

Solid seasons that ended a win short of the OSAA State Tournament for the Phoenix basketball teams were rewarded in recent All-Skyline Conference all-star teams.

Both the PHS boys and girls had a first-team honoree. Ethan Hutsell completed his varsity career by earning first-team honors as well as a spot on the Skyline's all-defensive team. The 6-foot-5 senior, who will play basketball at Pacific University, led the team in scoring and rebounding as the Pirates finished third in the Skyline and came within three points on knocking off Philomath in a Round of 16 game.

Meanwhile, Josie Bolstad was named to the girls' first team. A 6-foot junior, Bolstad led her team in both scoring and rebounding as well. The girls finished fourth in the conference standings and won a play-in game at Molalla before falling to Philomath in the Sweet 16.

Other honors for the PHS boys included senior guard Braeden Watts on the second team and seniors Nico Ortega and AJ Stanfield earning honorable mention.

For the girls, senior wing Cristal Tellez was a all-defensive team choice and Delani Parent, a junior post, was a second-team choice. Freshman guard Lola Lombreras was named honorable mention.
