In honor of our students and the challenges we are facing in the communities we serve, the lights at Phoenix High School's Jack Woodward Stadium will be turned on every Friday night at 8:20 pm. This weekly event will commence this Friday, April 10 and continue until at least June 12.
"We want all of our students in the Phoenix-Talent School District to know how important they are to us and that we care for each and every one of them," Phoenix-Talent District Athletic Director Dave Ehrhardt said https://phoenixpirates.org/main/video/id/0/vid/18612
The lights will come on Friday nights at 20:20 military time in honor of our seniors (8:20 pm) and will light up the stadium for one minute of each school day lost during this pandemic. The initiative is known as Be The Light and was recently started by long-time Madras Athletic Director Evan Brown. Nearly 100 Oregon schools are taking part, lighting up their stadiums at least once time per week during the school closure.
The weekly lighting of the stadium at PHS will start less than two days after the State of Oregon announced that schools would not re-open for the remainder of the school year. Coinciding with that announcement, the OSAA announced http://www.osaa.org/today/article/1643/view?title=COVID+Update+-+April+8%2C+2020 that all remaining spring activities and state championships are also canceled.
