Pirates warm up at "home" meet

Game Date
Apr 24, 2019

The Phoenix track and field teams hosted a home meet a few miles from home on Wednesday.

The Pirates used St. Mary's as their home venue for the six-team event. Construction will begin on the revitalized track at PHS this fall and be ready for next season.

In the mean time, Phoenix had a solid day in its lone home meet of the season. The Pirate girls were third in the team standings, finishing just 3.5 points out of first place.  Meanwhile, the Pirates boys were fourth.

Sienna Bauer led the event winners for the girls, taking honors on the 100 hurdles while finishing second in the 100 and 200. Sophia Stubblefield won the 800 and Joseph Grace took honors for the boys in the javelin.

Cameron Cory was second in the 200, Noah Marshall second in the 800, Heidi Taylor second in the 1500, and Sophia Tringolo second in the long jump. Third-place finishes came from Justin Vermillion in the javelin, Atreyu Stinson third in the high jump, Cristal Tellez third in the javelin, Elijah Leonis third in the 110 hurdles and Dilan Mathieu third in the 1500.

Also for the Pirates, Fa Masalosalo broke the 40-foot barrier for the first time with the fourth best effort for a freshmen in school history (40-feet-6.5).

The Pirates return to action Friday at the Lithia Invitational in Klamath Falls.
