The Phoenix baseball team continued to tune up for the Skyline Conference season with a pair of solid wins over South Umpqua on Monday afternoon.

The Pirates banged out 12 hits in an 11-5 win over the Lancers in the opener. PHS followed up with a 7-1 win over South Umpqua in the nightcap, using the impressive pitching of Ethan Humble to lead the way.

The freshman righthander pitched 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, striking out nine and walking just one in the contest, which was called after five innings due to darkness. It was Humble's second varsity start.

Phoenix took charge of the game with a six-run third inning. Mason Stella and Chase Courtney both had two hits in the contest, improving the Pirates to 6-3 on the season.

Phoenix scored nine times in the first four innings of the opener. Brennan Watts had three hits while Liam Serean and Courtney both added two. Courtney scored four runs in the game.

Stella was the winning pitcher with relief help from Kade Beer.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, hosting Cascade Christian.
