The Phoenix baseball team put an exclamation point on the regular season with a pair of wins on  Saturday.

The Pirates closed Skyline Conference play by sweeping visiting Klamath Union 11-0 and 7-4 in Skyline Conference play at Colver Fields. PHS closed the Skyline with a 9-6 mark and is 16-9 overall heading into a 4A play-in game on Thursday when the Pirates will host Douglas. First pitch is set for 5 pm.

Phoenix jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opener. Dylan Knudson, Mason Stella and Liam Serean combined to one-hit the Pelicans in the five-inning contest. Serean collected four hits and drove in four runs, Braeden Watts totaled three hits while Jonathan Halligan, Stella and Chase Courtney added two each.

The Pirates overcame an early 2-1 deficit to complete the sweep in the nightcap. Freedom Martinez was the winning pitcher, striking out seven in six innings of work. Serean, Knudson and Brennen Watts all had two hits in the finale.

Three days earlier, the Pirates opened their season with KU by rolling to a 16-0 win over the Pelicans. Ethan Humble tossed the five-hit, five-inning shutout while a 10-run third inning sealed the deal for PHS. All of the Pirate runs came with two outs, similar to an epic comeback to knock off Hidden Valley a few days earlier. Martinez, Brennen Watts and Kade Beer all had two-run hits in the surge on Wednesday. Serean, Kevin Botermans and Courtney all finished the game with two hits.
