In addition to another impressive pitching effort, the Phoenix baseball team got a serious offensive boost on Tuesday afternoon.
After a slow start at the plate in a season-opening 4-3 win over Sutherlin on Tuesday, the Pirates erupted for 13 hits on the way to a 10-1 win over visiting Douglas on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Colver Field.
Senior Liam Serean set the tone from the mound, striking out the first nine batters he faced. Brandon Zanni, Kade Beer and Monte Spence all got in an inning of work to help close the win. In all, the Pirates allowed only two Douglas hts in the game.
Phoenix scored five times in the first inning and never looked back. Kade Beer and Mason Stella both had three hits in the game while Serean and Freedom Martinez added two each.
The Pirates return to action Wednesday at Yreka.
