The Phoenix baseball team had to win a game on Monday afternoon. Liam Serean made sure they did!
The senior threw a four-hit shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 in a 4-0 win at Mazama. The contest was the second game of a doubleheader that was postponed on Saturday due to wet field conditions. Mazama won Monday's opener 9-1 to put the Pirates in the must-win situation.
Phoenix improved to 4-2 in the Skyline Conference and 10-7 overall. The Pirates open a three-game series with Henley on Wednesday in Klamath Falls.
The Pirates totalled 12 hits to support Serean. Brandon Zanni scored three runs while Braeden Watts and Mason Stella both collected two hits.
In the opener, Mazama broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning.
