While it won’t be advancing to the post-season, Phoenix closed its best softball season since 2015 with a pair of resounding wins on Saturday.

The Pirates swept visiting Klamath Union, topping the Pelicans 21-3 and 22-2 in Skyline Conference play at Colver Fields. PHS finished the season 9-13 overall, including a 5-10 mark in the conference. Phoenix won a combined 11 games in the previous two seasons.

Abi George collected seven hits, including a three-run inside-the-park homer in the first game. Brooke Kentner and Tatum Truex both totalled three hits in the opener while Halie Bowman hit a three-run homer. In the second game, Josie Bolstad led the hit parade with four hits, three runs and four RBI while George, Taylor Wallack and Makenna Page also had four hits.

The Pirates also rolled on Wednesday, downing the Pelicans 12-2. Kentner had another big day at the plate, homering and finishing with two of the team’s 15 hits. Katelyn Hanson and Bowman had three hits apiece as did George. Emma Truex struck out six to earn the victory.
