Joseph Grace set a personal best in the javelin to lead the Phoenix track and field teams at the Lithia Invitational in Klamath Falls on Saturday.
The Pirate junior finished second with a toss of 162-feet-5. His effort was the best finish on the day for a Phoenix athlete.
Other finishes of note for the PHS boys included Robby Vos fourth in the 1500 (4:24.43) and the 4x100 relay team of Cameron Cory, Adoniram Gamez, Cori Romig and Joe Navas fourth (45.17).
The Phoenix girls' 4x100 team of Sienna Bauer, Sophia Tringolo, Anna Nash and Maggie Carrillo placed third (52.66). Also for the girls, Nash was fifth in the long jump (15-5) and 100 (13.36), Lupita Alegria sixth in the 800 (2:44.75) and Tringolo sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.55).
As a team, the girls were 11th with 20 points while the boys were 11th with 19 points. The Pirates return to action Wednesday when they will serve as the host of a multi-team meet being held at South Medford High School. Starting time is 4 pm.
