A strong contingent of runners, jumpers and throwers will represent Phoenix High School at the OSAA State Track and Field Meet in Eugene.

The Pirates punched their tickets to historic Hayward Field with their efforts at the Skyline Conference meet at Southern Oregon University in Ashland last weekend.

Robby Vos and Sienna  Bauer both qualified in multiple events. Vos, a senior, won the 3000 on Friday (9:26.18) while finishing second in the 1500 on Saturday (4:21.73). A sophomore, Bauer paced the field in the 100 hurdles (16.48) while finishing second in the triple jump (33-10). Bauer will only hurdle at state due to a leg injury.

Phoenix junior Joseph Grace was also an event winner, topping the field in the javelin (154-0).

Other state qualifiers for the Pirates include Lupita Alegria (second in the 800 2:29.34), junior Joe Navas (second in the 400 54.07), senior Cory Romig (second in the 100 11.62) and junior Anna Nash (fourth in the long jump 16-4).

In the team competition, Phoenix finished sixth for both boys and girls. Mazama won the boys’ meet while Hidden Valley was the girls’ team champion.

 The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday in Eugene.
