Challenges have been nothing new to the Phoenix football team so far this season.
From replacing a long list of graduated seniors to dealing with air quality issues, the Pirates have been looking to establish their identity. They took some steps toward that goal on Friday night in a 28-0 loss to Cascade Christian at Woodward Stadium.
A couple of strong defensive stances in the first half highlighted the effort. PHS trailed 14-0 at the intermission before a 14-point third quarter put the game away for CCHS.
Fifty-three rushing yards by Micheal Walker paced Phoenix on the ground while Jacky Hawkins caught five passes for 34 yards. Dalton Sammis completed 11 of 22 passes for 89 yards. Phoenix managed 176 yards of total offense on the night.
The Pirates return to action Friday, visiting Newport, which opened the season with a 32-8 win over Tillamook.
