This time, the Phoenix football team had nearly all of the answers.

After falling behind and never rallying in two losses to open the season, the Pirates showed plenty of fight when they hosted Sweet Home in a non-conference game on Friday night at Jack Woodward. Stadium. Trailing 19-0 in the second quarter, Phoenix rallied and nearly took the lead before dropping a 32-19 decision.

Zach Dungey threw three touchdown passes, including a 21-yard connection with Nik Goff to put PHS on the board in the second quarter. He hooked up Davon Ruiz on a 42-yard score early in the third quarter, cutting the Huskies' lead to 19-13. Phoenix was on the way to a game that would have tied the game on its next drive, only to fumble near the goal line. Sweet Home responded with two scoring drives to take control again. Jacky Hawkins caught a 12-yard pass from Dungey for a score in the game's final minute to close the scoring.

Dungey threw for 187 yards while Hawkins caught 10 passes for 111 yards and Ruiz five for 75.

Phoenix returns to action Friday, opening Skyline Conference play at Mazama.
