After getting smoked out on Friday night, the Phoenix football team got run out on Saturday.
The Pirates dropped a 43-13 Skyline Conference decision to visiting Klamath Union in a game postponed a day earlier due to poor air quality in the Rogue Valley. PHS allowed 380 rushing yards (510 overall) in the loss.
Phoenix threw for 310 yards, including a 25-yard scoring pass from Zach Dungey to Nik Goff in the second quarter. That score cut the Pelicans' lead to 20-7. PHS was on the move moments later and was down to the KU five-yard line but was unable to score. From there, KU took charge, scoring 23-unanswered points. Dungey completed the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run in the game's final minute.
The Pirates threw for an impressive 310 yards in the game, including 230 by Dungey but were unable to develop a running game. Jacky Hawkins caught six passes for 136 yards while Goff hauled in five for 96. Micheal Walker led the defense, finishing with five solo tackles and 10 assists.
The Pirates (0-5) return to action Friday when they visit Henley.
