After a weekend of slow starts, the Phoenix boys’ basketball team made some changes.
The Pirates reshuffled the starting line-up and were ready from the opening tip. Unfortunately, PHS wasn’t able to make a third-quarter lead hold up in a 37-34 non-conference loss to visiting North Bend on Tuesday night.
PHS led 19-15 at halftime and opened a 10-point cushion in the third quarter. Just when the Pirates appeared to be ready to pull away, a rash of turnovers and cold shooting led to a four-point final quarter.
Kevin Botermans got untracked in the post, scoring a season-high 14 points to lead the Pirates (1-3 on the season), who return to action on Friday at South Umpqua.
