Pirates finish tourney with solid win

The Phoenix boys' basketball team came out of hibernation, rolling to an impressive 34-point win against Westside Christian on the final day of the Cascade Christian Holiday Tournament.
Eleven players scored for the Pirates, who opened a 19-3 lead after one quarter and never looked back. David Lozano-Reyes led the way with 17 ponits while Ethan Hutsell added 13 points and Javon Gail nine for PHS, which improved to 2-6 on the season.
The win on December 23 ended a six-game losing streak, including a pair of losses at the tournament. PHS fell to Santiam Christian 72-42 on December 21 and Pacific 45-28 a day earlier. Hutsell had 11 points against Santiam and 13 against Pacific.
The Pirates will return to action Thursday when they open play in the Evergreen Federal Holiday Classic at HIdden Valley High School.
