After losing late-game leads in two earlier meetings with Hidden Valley, the Phoenix boys' basketball team took care of business on Thursday night.
Taking advantage of 30 trips to the free throw line - compared to only six for Hidden Valley, the Pirates scored a 50-43 win in Skyline Conference play at PHS.
The victory improved Phoenix to 2-4 in conference play and 5-14 overall.
PHS outscored its guests 20-10 in the second quarter and led the rest of the way. Javan Gail set the tone, leading all scorers with 17 points while Brennan Watts added 11 and Ethan Hutsell nine.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday, visiting North Valley.
