A team that struggled to close games all season managed to empahtically shut the door on Friday night.
Trailing by five points after three quarters, the host Phoenix Pirates outscored Klamath Union by 10 points in the final eight minutes to close the season with a 58-53 victory in Skyline Conference play.
The 24-point surge in the final quarter included big contrbutions from seniors Brennan Watts (10 points), Javan Gail (six) and David Lozano Reyes (six). That trio plus Kevin Botermans and Kellen Peterson played the final games for the Pirates.
Ethan Hutsell scored a team-high 17 points and kept the Pirates in the game early. Watts went on to finish with 13 points, Gail 12 points and Lozano Reyes eight for PHS, which finished 3-7 in conference play and 6-17 overall.
