The Phoenix boys' basketball team is on a roll.

Phoenix downed St. Mary's 76-58 on Thursday, South Umpqua 84-56 on Friday and Cascade Christian 57-44 on Saturday. PHS was the only varsity boys' team to finish 3-0 in the event.

A three-point barrage led to victories on Thursday and Friday. The Pirates hit from long distance a combined 22 times in the games. Thursday's win included a huge showing from Neco Ortega. The junior guard connected six times from three-point range in the first half, setting the stage for Phoenix's second win over St. Mary's in less than a week. He finished with 27 points while Ethan Hutsell added 20. Ortega hit six more three-pointers in Friday's win over South Umpqua. Brennan Watts led all scorers with 23 in the victory. Eleven Pirates scored in the victory.

Saturday, the Pirates were slowed a bit but still vanquished Cascade Christian. Phoenix closed the game with a 20-12 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. Hutsell scored 16 points, Watts 12, AJ Stanfield eight and Mason Stella seven in what was the Pirates fifth straight win.

Phoenix returns to action Friday when it heads to Elmira.
