Eventually, the Phoenix boys' basketball team is going to wear you down.
Using a platoon system, the Pirates again amped up the pressure in what became a 56-48 win over host North Valley in a Skyline Conference game in Merlin on Tuesday night.
Trailing 22-17 at halftime, Phoenix (2-4 in conference play and 11-9 overall) erased the deficit in the third quarter with a 22-8 scoring run. They continued to pull away in the final eight minutes, winning their second straight game in the process.
Three-point baskets by Nik Goff, Braeden Watts and Neco Oretega as well as a steal and a dunk by Ethan Hutsell fueled the thidr-quarter surge. Hutsell finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Goff and Ortega added nine each.
The Pirates head to conference leader Henley on Friday night.
