The Phoenix boys' basketball got caught in a shootout Tuesday night.
And while the Pirates had plenty if firepower, they weren't able to match host Hidden Valley in a 97-74 loss in a regular-season finale for both teams in Murphy.
A 52-point eruption in the first half proved too much for the Pirates to overcome. PHS connected 18 times from behind the three-point line in the game but couldn't manage to get closer than six points in the second half.
Neco Ortega finished with a team-high 23 points for the Pirates, who closed the season at 3-7 in Skyline Conference play and 12-12 overall. Ethan Hutsell added 18 points and Braeden Watts 15 for Phoenix.
