The Phoenix boys' basketball team dug deep to earn its first Skyline Conference win of the season, edging North Valley 58-54 in overtime on Friday night.
The Pirates led through most of the night before holding off the Knights, who hit three free throws after time expired to force overtime. Phoenix used an 8-4 scoring edge in the extra period to notch the win, improving to 1-2 in the Skyline and 6-10 overall.
Miguel Valadez and Isaiah Ayala-Talbott both scored 13 points while Julius Bolstad added 11 points and seven rebounds. Ayala-Talbott hit two big three-point baskets late in the game while Valadez had seven steals and four assists on the night.
The Pirates return to action on Tuesday when they host Hidden Valley.
