The Phoenix boys' basketball team is starting to finish games.
The Pirates improved to 3-4 in the tightly-packed Skyline Conference with a thrilling 59-56 win over visiting Klamath Union on Friday night. Dylan Harper scored 21 points and Miguel Valadez added for the Pirates, who got contributions from their entire roster to grab the win over the Pelicans.
Robin Trenbeath hit a pair of late free throws to build the lead to three points. Phoenix had one of its best nights of the season at the free throw line, hitting 20 of 26 on the night. The Pirates are 8-12 overall and ranked 23rd in the state, putting them in prime position to earn a 4A play-in game later this month.
PHS visits North Valley on Tuesday and Hidden Valley on Friday.
