A slow start was too much to overcome for the Phoenix boys' basketball team.
The Pirates fell behind host Banks early and were never able to catch the Braves in a 68-52 4A play-in loss on February 26.
Phoenix trailed 22-8 after one quarter. The Pirates cut into Banks' lead on several occasions but were unable to get closer than five points the rest of the afternoon. Miguel Valadez scored 19 points, Julius Bolstad 14 and Isaiah Ayala-Talbott nine.
Phoenix ended its season 10-14 overall.
