The Phoenix boys' baskebtall team did almost everything it needed to do to win a game on Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Pirates they fell a single point short in a 58-57 overtime loss in Skyline Conference play at Klamath Union.

The Pirates (0-2 in the conference, 7-9 overall) got off to a solid start, limited turnovers and controlled the tempo throughout. Still the host Pelicans managed the win, hitting a game-winning free throw with three seconds left in overtime to break a 57-57 tie.

Phoenix led at the end of each of the first three quarters. KU managed to tie the game at 53 to force the overtime where it outscored the Pirates 5-4 to hold on for the win.

Dylan Harper scored all 21 of his points in the second half. The junior swingman netted 11 points in the fourth quarter, helping answer every Klamath Union surge. Harper eventually fouled out in overtime after scoring all four of his team's points in the extra period. He added four steals and four rebounds.

Robin Trenbeath finished with six points and four assists while Jenner Selden added four assists. The Pirates committed only seven turnovers and gave up only eight offensive rebounds on the night.

Phoenix returns to action Friday, hosting Hidden Valley.
