Third-quarter drought slows Pirates

A struggle to find the basket in the third quarter proved costly for the Phoenix basketball team in a 41-37 Skyline Conference loss at Mazama on Tuesday night, Feb. 7.
Playing in Klamath Falls for the second time in four days, the Pirates were solid throughout the first half and led 24-23 at halftime. The host Vikings put together a 14-7 scoring run in the third quarter to take control beore holding on during the final eight minutes when they scored only four points.
Phoenix had multiple opportunities to cut the lead over the final quarter but hit just two of eight free throws in the quarter and four of 13 for the game.
Robin Trenbeath scored a team-high 11 points to lead Phoenix, which got nine from Dylan Harper and eight from Julius Bolstad.
The Pirates, who return to action on Friday when they host Klamath Union, slipped to 8-11 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
