After a couple weeks of nailbiters, the Phoenix boys’ soccer team finally got a break, rolling past Klamath Union 4-0 in a Skyline Conference match on Monday night in Klamath Falls.
The Pirates outshot the host Pelicans 22-1. PHS led 1-0 at halftime before running off three goals in the second 40 minutes to pull away.
Sergio Urena scored off of assists from Kassem Akil in the second half while Akil also added a second-half goal (assisted by Jacob Jee). Bryson Flenner opened the scoring for the Pirates, turning a Gee pass into a goal 15 minutes into the contest.
Giovanni Cook recorded the shutout in goal for Phoenix, which improved to 4-1 in conference play and 4-1-2 overall. The Pirates return to action Thursday, hosting Hidden Valley in a 4:30 kickoff at Colver Fields.
