MOLALLA HIGH SCHOOL: 1
This time, the Phoenix boys' soccer team wasn't about to settle.
After giving a late goal to leave with a tie in Molalla last year, the Pirates put their collective foot to the peddle early and never let up in a 5-1 win over the Indians on Saturday in Tri-City. The match was moved from Talent to South Umpqua High School due to poor air quality.
Bryson Flenner opened the scoring 18 minutes in to the match. Logan Jenkins found the net just before halftime while Ty Clayton and Cain Vargas scored early in the second half. Flenner completed the scoring in the 55h minute. Molalla managed its lone goal o a penalty kick late in the game.
Now 2-0 and ranked second in the state, Phoenix got two assists from Miguel Conchas and one each from Victor Martinez and Randy Rodriguez.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday, visiting Marshfield.
