While it was better than a loss, the Phoenix boys' soccer team would have preferred a win rather than 1-1 tie at Hidden Valley on Monday afternoon.
The Pirates appeared to be heading toward victory as they led 1-0 before the host Mustangs turned a free kick into a goal from 30 yards out with four minutes to play.
Victor Martinez scored the lone Phoenix goal in the first half. Caden Gallegos asisted on the score. Dan Martinez and Randy Rodriguez anchored another solid effort by the Pirate defense.
Phoenix (1-0-1 in the Skyline Conference and 3-1-2 overall) hosts North Valley on Thursday afternoon at Colver Field.
