Rodriguez goal boosts Pirates to win

The Phoenix soccer team did everything but score a lot of goals on Monday afternoon.

Still, the Pirates found the net when it counted as senior Randy Rodriguez connected 30 seconds into the second half to lift his team to a 1-0 Skyline Conference win over Henley.

Phoenix totalled 18 shots on goal and had several close calls. The Pirates also controlled the game on defense as goalie Tucker Speaks worked the shutout.

Ranked third in the state, Phoenix improved to 3-0-1 in the conference and 5-1-2 overall. The Pirates visit Mazama on Thursday.
