The Phoenix boys' soccer team earned an invitation to the season-ending 4A state tournament. Now the real work begins!
The Pirates will open the eight-team event on Tuesday night when they battle North Marion in a quarterfinal match at Sutherlin High School. Kickoff is set for 7;15 pm.
Phoenix is 8-1 on the season. The Pirates won the Skyline title, outscoring opponents 46-3 in the process. PHS was undefeated before dropping a 1-0 decision at Henley on Saturday in its regular-season finale.
Meanwhile, North Marion was the top finisher in the Tri-Valley Conference with a 5-2-1 mark. The Huskies outscored their opponents 17-8 on the season.
Tuesday's winner will advance to the 4A semifinals on Thursday night at a site to be determined.
