The Phoenix girls’ basketball team was off to the races on Tuesday night. For a quarter.
After an impressive eight minutes to play to open the game, the Pirates weren’t able to continue their torrid pace in a 66-42 non-conference loss to visiting North Bend.
Phoenix led 18-12 after one quarter and 26-24 at halftime before the Bulldogs went on a 42-16 scoring spree in the second half.
Taylor DeVry totaled 14 points and four assists for the Pirates, who are 1-3 on the season. Bella Lopez added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists while Maggie Carrillo chipped in 10 points.
PHS returns to action on Friday, visiting South Umpqua.
